Bath Psychology Service is a private, independent child psychology service offering practical help, support and advice to children, parents and families.

Common challenges that cause families to look for help include babies and toddlers difficulties including feeding and sleeping problems, managing difficult behaviour and tantrums, toileting problems or relationship issues.

Other common issues that cause parents to seek help for their children include emotional difficulties (such as anxiety, poor self-confidence and self-esteem, bullying, obsessive-compulsive problems, depression), behavioural difficulties, difficulty with learning, developmental difficulties including wetting or soiling and relationship difficulties. Other issues include difficulties managing changes such as transition to school, bereavement, family breakup & divorce, illness, or dealing with the challenges of adolescence.

All these problems can cause distress for children as well as parents, and may interfere with family, social and school life. They often have knock-on consequences for self-esteem and self-confidence and affect relationships in the rest of the family.

We aim to work in a collaborative, non-judgemental way that understands how problems arise, how a family has struggled to deal with them and her goal is to come to an agreement about what she can offer that would be most helpful. We are guided by current evidence-based treatments tailored to your specific needs.

Following an initial meeting, treatment is likely to consist a number of meetings either with parents alone, with the individual child, or with parent and child together, including other members of the families if this is helpful. Sometimes a one-off meeting is enough to give the help or advice that is needed.

This is a confidential service but we will liaise with school, GP, hospital or other professionals if this is agreed to be suitable and helpful.

The service is run by Dr Jessica Jewett, an experienced clinical child psychologist who specialises in children and families with a range of problems. She is experienced with children ranging from young infants, toddlers, and primary-age children through to adolescents in secondary education and beyond.
